Abstract
Knowledge of factors that influence an older person's ability to cope effectively with stress would assist in the development of interventions for promoting mine effectiveness. A model of coping effectiveness was test for explanatory adequacy and revised based on empirical data fmm 100 community-residing, older women. The revised model of coping effectiveness fit the data and accounted for a moderate amount of explained variance. Specifically, the findings supported direct and indirect effects of use of informational coping assistance, degree of threat, negatively toned emotions, and coping responses (problem-focused coping and emotion- focused coping) on coping effectiveness.
