Abstract

Pain is a complex phenomenon. In order to understand pain perception one must attempt to understand pain physiology and how certain physiologic and biomedical changes associated with aging may influence the elderly person's pain perception. Understanding the varied changes that occur with aging is very important in diagnosing and managing pain in the elderly population.
