NSAIDs and the Gastrointestinal Tract—Case Closed?

Abstract

The clinical efficacy of non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is undisputed, as is their propensity to induce gastrointestinal mucosal lesions. Although several new substances and formulations have been developed during the past decades in the search for drugs with a more favourable side effect profile, the difference between the individual drugs remains small and is overshadowed by the interindividual variation in sensitivity.
