Abstract
We have investigated some of the differences that exist in the content of the same subject in different textbooks. Fourteen textbooks were analysed utilising thyrotoxicosis therapy as a content ‘marker’ of endocrinology. Our study revealed major differences between books as far as the number of words each devoted to the subject and in the information provided. Teachers responsible for recommending textbooks to students should be aware of the possibility of significant differences in the content of the books selected and the possible impact on student learning.
