Abstract

Hemangioma of the bladder is uncommon, occurring most often in children. It constitutes six promille of all bladder tumors.1 The patient usually presents with intermittent gross, painless hematuria and is often anemic. Of the cavernous hemangiomas anywhere in the body, 90 % resolve completely or partially within time.2 However, when they compress vital structures or cause severe hemorrhage or secondary infection, therapy can be necessary. Here we present a case of a hemangioma of the bladder and vagina which had to be treated because of life-threatening bleeding. Surgical excision would have been very mutilating. We induced involution of the tumor with local application of prednisolone, a hitherto unpublished therapy for hemangioma of the bladder.
