In the paper ‘Immunomodulating effects and hypersensitivity reactions caused by Northeast Indian black fly salivary gland extract’ by Chattopadhyay et al. (2014, Vol. 11(2):126–132, doi: 10.3109/1547691X.2013.809038), the photograph shown in was incorrect and the species incorrectly labeled as Simulium Himalayas. In fact, the species shown was Simulium S. indicum. Further, appropriate attribution for the original photo was not provided; the photo was from the doctoral thesis work of Dr. Subhalaxmi Borah Medhi (District Epidemiologist in the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program in Tezpur, India) entitled ‘Characterization of salivary components of black fly (Diptera: Simuliidae), endemic to Arunachal Pradesh, causing dermatitis in humans’. The authors apologize for the errors. A correct photo of S. Himalayas is provided below.
