Abstract

This article presents flutter prediction of composite wind turbine blades through time domain aeroelastic analysis using unsteady blade element momentum (BEM) theory based aerodynamic model. Comparison of the flutter speeds obtained in the present study with those previously obtained through Eigen solution based approach using Theodorsen’s theory based aerodynamic model for several different lamination sequences and blade configuration has been presented. It has been observed that both the approaches predict highest flutter speed at the same blade configuration and lamination sequence. However, flutter limit obtained through the present approach is less as compared to that obtained through Eigen solution based approach.
