ABSTRACT

With offshore wind energy being developed rapidly in recent years, floating offshore wind technologies have received large attention worldwide. The present paper proposes an integrated wind-wave energy system supported by a semisubmersible floating platform. The dynamic responses of the offshore wind-wave integrated system are investigated and discussed. The results show that the integrated system exhibits reasonable dynamic responses. The frequency domain analysis shows that the hydrodynamic coupling effects have significant impact on the wave energy converters (WECs). In addition, the motions of the integrated system under moderate sea conditions are mainly influenced by the eigenfrequencies of the system itself. The energy capture efficiency of the WEC is higher for waves with a period in the range 12 s~20 s. Under extreme sea conditions, the power take-off system was shut down, and the dynamic responses of the integrated system were mainly influenced by the hydrodynamic loads.
