ABSTRACT

Cemented Paste Backfill (CPB) undergoes transient changes in stress behaviour during curing, influenced by geothermal gradient and cement hydration. This study explores CPB’s response to temperature variations in a semi-confined narrow wall, simulating mining stope conditions. The results revealed that arching effects restricts vertical expansion of CPB slurry leading to temperature-induced thermal stress that often exceeding total stress estimation. Temperature change at different stage of backfill resulted in different level of stress generated due to the material state. These findings suggest the need to consider thermal behaviour in the relevant designs to improve safety in the mining industry.
