ABSTRACT

Different adsorption models were developed and employed to evaluate and predict the flocs formation rate and consequently the sedimentation rate. Furthermore, a novel analysis procedure for the selection and optimization of the flocculation process was established. Using the pseudo-second-order model the capacity of flocculants for adsorption on a solid surface can be predicted. The rate of flocs sedimentation is proportionally related to the size of the flocs. Hence, the rate of flocs sedimentation was predicted by the rate of their formation. Besides, the rate of formation of flocs was evaluated by the justification of intraparticle diffusion and the Smoluchowski analysis.
