Influence of bevel angle on the welding-induced residual stress and distortion based on a thermometallurgical-mechanical model in a Q345-316L dissimilar butt welded joint

Abstract

Generally, residual stress and distortion are evident in dissimilar welded joint, which are easily affected by different welding parameters. The occurrence of residual stress and distortion almost is attributed to that the non-uniform expansion and contraction of the weld and surrounding base material during arc welding. Different bevel angle has a serious effect for the result of welding due to producing different thermal conduction direction and volume of filler metal. Therefore, the effect of bevel angle on residual stress and distortion in a Q345-316L dissimilar joint is studied employing finite element method and experiment. Considering thermo-metallurgical-mechanical coupling behaviors, solid phase transition effect, the isotropic hardening model and mobile heat resource were performed on the stress field and distortion in the joints of V-bevel angle 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90°. Besides, the result of the simulation was verified by the corresponding experiment result. As a result, it is found that the influence of bevel angle on the residual stress and distortion is significantly apparent in the Q345-316L dissimilar joint.
