^a750 is a monthly income from guiding at the Brandberg. However, since John only guides at the mountain 6 months per year, this accounts for 375 on average for the whole 12 months. Also note that 500 is a monthly average for ‘other tourism income’ which John receives when he guides groups from Raleigh International for 6 months of the year. He earns 1000 per month for the 6 months, hence a monthly average of 500 for the whole year. Adding together the two sources of income, John actually receives 875 per month on average (and not 750 + 500 = 1350).
