Figure 2. The digital mechanism of FLC repression in response to vernalization. FLC-Venus regulation in the root meristem follow a binary On/Off states being either fully expressed or fully repressed in the single cell. The transcriptional state is transmitted to the daughter cells through mitotic divisions.
