Utilising dreambody choreutics to integrate somatics with lucid dream criteria

Pages 145-158 | Received 05 May 2016, Accepted 29 Jul 2016, Published online: 16 Sep 2016

Abstract

A model of lucid dream criteria is revised from a somatic perspective which implements both dreambody terminology and choreutics, more commonly known as Laban Movement Analysis. Dreambody Choreutics is the original term utilised to encapsulate this synthesis throughout the paper. Conceptual applications of this approach are addressed. The connection between body symptoms in both dreams and the waking state is also discussed. The revised model for lucid dream criteria is presented near the end of the paper with support from the preceding discussion. It is intended to contribute to discussion and research towards ameliorating the ‘void in lucid dream research’ as well as provide criteria for somatic psychotherapists who are interested in utilising lucid dreams for psychotherapeutic interventions. The conclusion offers ideas for future research investigating the integration of somatics with lucid dream research.
