Pages 869-877 | Published online: 02 Dec 2021

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to assess the challenges and successes of local food pantries to meet the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews were completed with a convenience sample of representatives from area food pantries and food banks. Responses indicated that many food pantries remained committed to serving their clients during the pandemic but had to shift operations, focused on community partnerships, and a sustainable volunteer base was a challenge. With the increased need for resources, food pantries can serve the community better by shifting services and create a safe environment for volunteers.
