Amanda Rees

Amanda Rees is a lecturer in Geography & Environmental Sciences (GES) and a PhD student in a joint program between GES and the College of Architecture & Planning at CU Denver. Her research interests are in landscape equity, environmental and social justice, urban and historical geography, and transportation policy. Amanda teaches courses in Human Geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses at CU Denver and works as a GIS consultant supporting projects at local and statewide scales.

Marlena Harwood

Marlena Harwood is a former graduate student in GES, and graduated from CU Denver in December 2021 with a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences. During her time in the program, her research interests included urban and regenerative agriculture, sustainable development, and environmental and social justice. Marlena now works in corporate sustainability as a coordinator, supporting nationwide and global engagement initiatives.

Maggie Praley

Maggie Praley is a student in GES and finishes her master’s degree in Environmental Sciences at CU Denver in May 2022. Her research interests are in environmental policy and social justice, political ecology, climate change, and renewable energy politics. She is also interested in pursuing a career at an environmental consulting company or a nonprofit working as a policy analyst following graduation.

Bryan Wee,

Bryan Wee is an associate professor in GES at CU Denver. His scholarship lies at the intersection of cultural geography and social justice, where he uses visual narratives to understand young people’s sense of place in urban spaces and to advocate for their concerns. Bryan also leads study abroad programs to China and Singapore focused on urban sustainability, environmental conservation, and globalization. He is currently commissioning editor (North America) for the journal Children’s Geographies, and he directs the environmental science education certificate at CU Denver.

Thomas Duster

Thomas Duster is an Assistant Professor (CTT) at CU Denver, while also serving as the Associate Graduate Program Director. Tom teaches courses across the environmental curriculum, with specialties in soil and water science. His research interests relate to the movement of contaminants in environmental systems.
