ABSTRACT
Feed particle size has a multifaceted effect on the performance of a Dense Medium Cyclone (DMC). It directly affects the efficiency of the equipment and the associated machinery. The effect of feed size on efficiency has also been statistically examined. Feed size influences the separation density of the system and can accordingly alter the yield and quality of the product. The fineness of the feed may also influence the rheology and stability of the medium and has effects on the recovery of the medium. The effect caused by other factors is also more significant for fine particles. These and other aspects of influence of feed size on DMC performance, as available in the published literature, have been discussed in this paper. Attempts have also been made to explain the different aspects of the size effects with limited theoretical reasoning.
