Abstract
Inspection of the MMPI responses of more than 11,000 normal adults indicated that 24 items were related to hypnotic-like experiences (HLE) within the frame of reference of previous research by Shor and others. Eight of these were “critical” indicators of emotional disturbance. Frequency data were relatively high for certain of the items, and in general, more women than men acknowledged HLE. It was suggested that it might be feasible to develop an HLE scale for the MMPI.
