On Transforming Symptoms: An Approach to an Erickson Procedure

Pages 17-28 | Published online: 22 Sep 2011

Abstract

This paper uses Heider's balance theory (1946) to construct a model based on the work of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. From this model specific guidelines are developed that can aid therapists in following the same underlying principles which are seen to organize Erickson's procedure. Two of Erickson's cases and two of the author's are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the model and the guidelines.
