Hypnosex Therapy

Pages 37-41 | Published online: 22 Sep 2011

Abstract

Cognitive processes related to sexual difficulties often become self-hypnotic in a negative way. This form of negative self-hypnosis can be described as negative sexual processing.

The clinical method proposed consists of an examination of negative self-statements with their accompanying sexual imagery. These are used in trance to elicit negative moods in order to dramatize the real effects of negative sexual processing.

Next, counteractive positive statements and imagery are developed during hypnosis. Finally, trance is used again to focus on and experience the mental images triggered by them. Home practice of self-hypnosis is an essential part of this method.

Follow up studies showed the advantages of this approach to enrich traditional sex therapy.
