Abstract
× Isoglacihypses depicting the glaciation limit in New Zealand closely parallel the crest of the Southern Alps and conform approximately to isohyets of mean annual precipitation. × The glaciation limit rises southeastward with a gradient of 19 ± 6 m km–1, being steepest in areas of high relief and gentlest where broad topographic saddles occur along the main divide. Topography and a strong windward-leeward precipitation gradient appear to be the principal parameters controlling the configuration of the glaciation limit.
