ABSTRACT
This review analyses and discusses the methods, medium, matrix, and mechanisms of α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) based sensors reported in the literature. Small guest molecules are detected directly by the α-CD host molecule by capturing them in the cavity through host-guest complexation. Whereas big size species are detected by the probes tagged on the 1°/2° rim of the α-CD. i.e., on the exterior of the cavity. This is the first review report on the α-CD-based sensors.
