Housing and society’s new editorial team and its hopes

Housing and Society has a new editorial team. We thank the previous editor, Becky Love Yust, the previous associate editors, Marilyn Bruin and Christine C. Cook, and the following editorial board members: Barbara Allen, Marilyn Bruin, Randall Cantrell, Christine C. Cook, Leslie Green-Pimentel, Sung-Jin Lee, Gina Peek, Pamela Turner, and Becky Love Yust. They have done a fantastic job over the past several years. We are delighted, grateful, and humbled that the search committee of the Housing Education and Research Association (HERA) selected us as the new editorial team. Moreover, we thank the following individuals at Taylor and Francis who have supported the transition: Publisher Jonathan Manley, Managing Editor Lauren Taylor, Editorial Assistant Kate Morse, Electronic Systems Coordinator Sophie Wilson, and Production Editor Louise Evans.

The new, diverse team hails from several continents and US regions. Associate Editor Nicole Gurran is an urban planner and policy analyst at the University of Sydney in Australia, and Associate Editor Marja Elsinga is an expert in comparative housing research at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. Book Review Editor Leslie Green-Pimentel is based at Delta State University and Social Media Editor Kandace Fisher-McLean is based at the University of Missouri Extension. Board members Greg Galford (Chatham University), Malo Hutson (Columbia University), and David Turcotte (University of Massachusetts, Lowell) hail from the Northeast. Board members Mira Ahn (Texas State University), Randall Cantrell (University of Florida), Eunju Hwang (Virginia Tech), and Pamela Turner and Malik Watkins (both from the University of Georgia) are from the South. Finally, board members Andrew Greenlee (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), Suk-Kyung Kim (Michigan State University), Gina Peek (Oklahoma State University), and Carolina Sarmiento (University of Wisconsin, Madison) are from the Midwest.

Apart from these experts in academia, the new board has experts from trade associations, think tanks, and the government. Scholastica (Gay) Cororaton and Robert Dietz are affiliated with the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of Home Builders, respectively. Algernon Austin and Darryl Getter work at Demos, and the Congressional Research Service, respectively.

Three hopes unite the new team: First, we hope to increase the number of manuscript submissions to Housing and Society. Second, we hope to expand the number of pages per issue. Third, we hope to increase the number of issues from three to four per year. For the next few months we will be encouraging authors to submit manuscripts for three special issues: housing and social justice, guest edited by Marilyn Bruin; housing and disasters, guest edited by Sarah Kirby; and housing and health, guest edited by David Turcotte. For the next few years, we encourage authors to consider submitting manuscripts on topics that are at the current and future research frontiers. May the adventure of editing Housing and Society begin!
