Safeguarding scientific integrity: A case study in examining manipulation in the peer review process

The Editors and Authors are issuing a correction notice for “Safeguarding scientific integrity: A case study in examining manipulation in the peer review process,” by Leslie D. McIntosh & Cynthia Hudson Vitale. The article was published online in Accountability in Research on December 13, 2023, https://doi.org/10.1080/08989621.2023.2292043

After publication, the Editors received two communications voicing concerns about the paper.

The first communication concerned the way the Charlotte Lozier Institute’s tax designation was characterized. The paper has been updated to correctly characterize that designation in point 1 of the Appendix. A Letter to the Editor voicing this concern and others has also been published [https://doi.org/10.1080/08989621.2024.2345720].

The second communication expressed concerns about the paper. The editors felt that one concern about how the initial case around which the study revolved was chosen merited clarification. The Materials and Methods section has been updated to clarify how this case was selected.

In addition, other minor typographical edits, not caught in the proof stage, have also been made.

The authors of the paper have agreed to this Correction.
