Whose city? Can a place vision for Belfast avoid the issue of identity?

Abstract

This paper explores the encoding and decoding of power relations in Belfast. The paper argues that during and since the Northern Ireland Peace Process came to fruition, symbols of past domination in the built environment have become politically and psychologically sensitive. A new discourse for the built environment of Belfast is called for.
