Abstract
'Performing under the Bedspread: Hysterical undercover operations', by Johanna Braun is a wonderfully poetic, evocative and thought-provoking piece that ranges widely from Freud and Anna O, hysteria and the talking cure, to pregnancy, dis-ability and performative writing. Whilst it could have been messy to try to write about all of these things in the one piece, the author does so with aplomb – and situates the ideas by threading them through the figure of the writer in bed, and the search for sleep.
