Abstract
This article reports on a research project concerning the professional learning and development of teachers in the major school education system of New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The NSW Department of Education and Training is the largest employer of teachers in NSW, is the largest public education system in Australia and one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. The research sought to acquire knowledge of the changing contexts, constraints and opportunities for teacher learning of the school-focussed training and development (T&D) culture as viewed by teachers and teacher leaders across NSW. The project was jointly funded and conducted by Charles Sturt University and the NSW Department of Education and Training in 1998.
