ABSTRACT

The phosphorous acid (H3PO2) was used as reducing agent to prepare phosphorus modified graphene oxide (P-FGO) was added into the EP/APP. The thermal stability, flame resistance, morphology of the residue char layer and impact fracture, and mechanical properties of the composites materials were investigated with TGA LOI, UL-94, SEM, TEM, impact and tensile test. The results show that the filling of P-FGO can improve the mechanical properties of EP composites. When the P-FGO content of the EP composites system was 0.3 wt%, the initia weight loss temperature was 311.7°C and the char yield was 19% at 600°C, the tensile strength was 49.3 MPa, impact strength was 9.5 kJ/m2, improve 24.8% and 50.8%, respectively, compare with APP flame retardant EP. LOI was 28.9, and the UL-94 passed V-0 level. The P-FGO had a good performance to enhance APP flame retardant EP.
