Quality engineering-based management: a proposal for achieving total optimisation of large systems

Abstract

This paper proposes a management framework for optimising large systems. Effective Quality Engineering methods, both conventional and newly developed, are applied in each step of the proposed framework; the method is then applied to specific product development activities. Results demonstrate the potential of the method to accomplish the total optimisation of large systems through optimisation at the sub-system level. Although a number of case studies demonstrating the application of Parameter Design and other Quality Engineering methods have been previously presented, nearly all have focused on solving a specific problem. We propose a comprehensive management strategy to achieve total system development (QEM: QE-based Management Method) by applying a unique mixture of both conventional and recently developed Quality Engineering methods.
