Food Selection Among College Women

, &
Pages 439-449 | Published online: 17 Nov 2014

Abstract

Evidence states that college students do not follow healthy eating practices. These practices could eventually lead to risk factors for obesity, hypertension, or cancers later in life. The risk for these illnesses could be prevented by developing healthy eating patterns early in adulthood. This study examined these patterns among undergraduate women. Overall, this population displayed healthy eating patterns and a majority reported a normal BMI. The significant findings show a majority of those living off campus make homemade meals, most days per week (p = .000). The implication of this study is that college students’ eating habits may be improving.
