The role of healthcare providers and health information professionals in the delivery of online PEMs is described. Relevant theories regarding the impact of language are discussed. A theoretical framework for understanding and assessing PEMs is presented, along with the introduction of in-progress research on the use of language in online PEMs for adults with type 1 diabetes.
