ABSTRACT

Improving the mean size of surface coke is an important subject in coke-making process. Focusing on usage of crushed inertinite, we investigated on addition of coke dry quenching (CDQ) dust in coal blend in different compositions. The effect of addition of CDQ dust on coke quality including coke mean size, changes in size fractions and coke CSR was studied. CDQ dust acts as crushed inertinite and helps in minimizing the decrease in coke strength occurred because of small cracks generated during carbonization. These cracks are generated because of different contraction ratio of vitrinite and inertinite. After taking plant trials with varied CDQ dust composition from 1% to 3% in coal blend, 1% CDQ dust usage in coal blend revealed as the optimized percentage for achieving higher mean size.
