Hesperidin-An Emerging Bioactive Compound against Metabolic Diseases and Its Potential Biosynthesis Pathway in Microorganism.

ABSTRACT

Hesperidin, a natural flavanone predominantly obtained from citrus fruit, plays a protective role against metabolic syndrome and associated diseases. In contrast, the isolation approaches of hesperidin from plant sources are traditional and less productive, therefore an exploration of the alternative method has become an important goal to achieve high-yield production. This review emphasizes on updated findings of hesperidin against metabolic diseases. Furthermore, studies forecasted that the biosynthesis of hesperidin in microorganisms might be a promising alternative for achieving high-yield production. Finally, comprehensive studies are recommended to verify the proposed biosynthesis pathway, thereby confirming the activity of produced hesperidin against metabolic diseases.
