Transference and Transactions: Some Additional Comments

Pages 170-173 | Published online: 28 Dec 2017

Abstract

Erskine's (1991) review and critique of Berne's exposition of transference is largely supported; differences that are asserted by Erskine regarding drive theory and TA and Kohut's transference distinctions are disputed. Comments on Erskine's model of the function of ego states, their interrelationships and structural embeddedness, and contact with the here-and-now follow. Supportive comments on the articles of Clark (1991) and Shmukler (1991) conclude the critique.
