On the Road Again

Taking Bibliographic Instruction Off-Campus

Pages 411-425 | Published online: 05 Oct 2008

ABSTRACT

Literature in the field of distance learning librarianship tends to focus on the provision of asynchronous, Web-based bibliographic instruction and reference services. Experience has shown this author, however, that off-campus students attending classes at extension or satellite campuses appreciate, and benefit from, personal interaction with a librarian. This paper describes the author's efforts, some more successful than others, to increase her personal contacts with distance learners in order to more fully realize her department's philosophy of “equivalent access/superior service.”
