Vulval Complaints in Postmenopausal Women

Abstract

This article highlights the common vulval problems encountered in postmenopausal women. In addition, the physiological basis for some of these changes are discussed. An up-to-date review of the literature of common conditions highlights recent changes in the demography and management of sevaral of these common conditions. Conditions such as lichen sclerosis, lichen planus, contact dermatitis and atrophic vulvo-vaginitis have been discussed in some detail. However, information on vulval carcinoma has not been included. Recent develpments in the treatment of vulval intraepithelial neoplasia, in addition to rare disorders such as Paget‘s disease of the vulva, have also been briefly mentioned.
