In the Review by Stephen D Lawn & Mark P Nicol, entitled ‘Xpert® MTB/RIF assay: development, evaluation and implementation of a new rapid molecular diagnostic for tuberculosis and rifampicin resistance‘ (Future Microbiol. 6[9], 1067–1082 [2011]); the following data were incorrectly quoted as:

Sensitivity was 94.7% for smear-positive TB and 46.8% for smear-negative TB, with an overall specificity of 78.7%.

The correct data are:

Sensitivity was 94.7% for smear-positive TB and 46.8% for smear-negative TB, with an overall sensitivity of 78.7% and overall specificity of 94.4% compared with a gold standard of culture.
