General Practice Training: Holistic Medical Education in Existence

Abstract

Vocational training for general practice is now well established, and within this vocational training, the trainee year is of crucial importance.¹ In this year the trainee general practitioner is seen in educational terms to be in an adolescent phase,² in which developing relationships are important. Indeed, the trainer/trainee relationship may well be considered to be the single most important factor in training;³ the trainer has considerable potential influence on the future general practitioner.⁴
