Is Non-treatment Related Anorexia in Cancer Patients Promoted by Subclinical Micronutrient Deficiencies?

Pages 19-27 | Published online: 06 Jul 2009

Abstract

It is clear that malignant disease may disrupt nutritional homeostasis and result in multiple nutritional deficiencies. In addition, malignancy per se may increase nutrient needs whilst resulting in anorexia, and, through effects on the intestinal mucosa, decreasing absorption. As a result, the cancer patient is likely to be deficient in many nutrients.
