Pages 93-112 | Published online: 01 Oct 2014

Abstract

The literature on referential communication skills of children is reviewed. Areas of review include speaker skills, listener skills, the role of clarifications, training studies, and language impaired populations. Clinical implications and the relevance of referential communication skills to speech-language pathologists are pointed-out. Finally, an appeal for more research with language impaired populations is made.
