Early Scottish science: The vocational provision

  • 1972 . The Early History of Scottish Popular Science . Studies in Adult Education , 4 : 34 – 45 . Since then, three further lecturers have come to light: Martin Triewald (in Edinburgh about 1725), and Richard Jack (same place in 1739–47); both lectured on astronomy and natural philosophy (letter from Mr F. J. G. Robinson); and in 1768, James Ferguson, F.R.S. (1710–1776) gave five courses in Edinburgh, plus special ones foir lades (information from David Bryden of Cambridge University, via Mr. J. R. Millburn of Aylesbury).
