  • It has been pointed out by Bisat, however, that part of the goniatite-fauna of the Caney shale is Viséan—see Bisat W. S. The Naturalist 1924 86 88 The Caney shale goniatites, G. newsomi Smith, G. subcircularis Miller, and Sagittoceras (Adelphoceras) meslerianum (Girty), occur in Bisat's zone P2, which he regards as the topmost division of the Viséan in the goniatite sequence in the English Pennines, while E. bisulcatum occurs in the upper part of Bisat's lowest Lancastrian zone E.
  • It is of interest to note in this connection that the coral Campophyllum gasperense, which, according to Sutton Weller Journ. of Geol. 1932 xl 433 453 is “a widely distributed and characteristic species of the Lower Chester…in western Kentucky eastwards and southwards as far as Alabama,” resembles Caninia juddi var. dawsoni of the Upper Windsor in many respects.
