  • Cochlearia officinalis This is doubtless the common scurvy-grass (Linn.) or the Danish scurvy-grass (C. danica), both of which occur in East Yorkshire; the first is plentiful along the coast
  • A whale “splay bone” (shoulder blade) also painted, is the sign of the “Whale-bone Inn” in Wincolmlee (the former centre of whale oil-boiling) at Hull
  • This was also a custom in England, as shown in the Hull Museum collections
  • A feature also shown in all the old Hull whalers' log books
