- The inconveniences traditionally associated with carrying out sealed tube reactions are completely eliminated by using a reaction vessel constructed from heavy‐walled pyrex tubing fitted with a screw‐type vacuum valve such as that sold by Kontes Glass Co., Vineland, New Jersey (e. g., cat. No. K‐826420 or K‐826620). This reaction vessel is reusable and samples can conveniently be withdrawn in order to monitor the reaction. We have heated acetonitrile up to 200° and observed no leakage from the teflon valve
