- The rate of the metalation of I appears to be much faster than the rate observed in this laboratory during lithiation under similar conditions of various other aromatic ethers including p-cresol methyl ether. This suggests a similar influence of the methoxymethoxy substituent upon the rate of metalation as was recently demonstrated for the 2-methoxyethoxy substituent (reference 9)
