Oxidation of [1-2H] Alcohols, Using Ceric Trihydroxy Hydroperoxide[Ce(OH)3O2H] - A Pronounced Deuterium Isotope Effect

  • Ceric trihydroxy hydroperoxide (CTH) was prepared according to the procedure described in reference 1
  • For nmr analysis, the deuteriated and non-deuteriated compounds (10 mg in separated nmr tubes) were accurately weighed and dissolved in CDCl3 (0.5 ml) and a trace of TMS was added as internal refrence. To ascertain the percent of deuterium incorporation, the intensity of the corresponding nmr peaks in labelled and non-labelled spectra were accurately determined (Spectrometer: Varian T-60A)
