The decomposition of ammonium bicarbonate to form ammonium carbamate, water and carbon dioxide is known: however, ammonium carbamate is known to decompose to ammonia and carbon dioxide, thus not changing the overall reaction. A test tube experiment showed that ammonium carbamate reacted vigorously with dry phosphorus pentachloride.
