  • “Metasearch” is defined as a federated search across multiple electronic resources. A metasearch may include different types of targets, such as Z39.50-compliant databases, Web sites searched via http strings, and xml gateways. Within the context of this paper, a “metasearchable” database is one that can be searched using a federated search client, such as Metalib®.
