- The ligand labilization aspect of the VC model appears to be less universally obeyed than the stereochemical change. It has been found that ligand loss can be influenced by steric factors and that competitive loss can occur from the plane of excitation. The bonding factors considered in the model are therefore not the sole influences to be considered in predicting the leaving ligand.
