Sir Louis Matheson closed his address “… the use and convenience of Man…” with the paragraph: “All this will put increasing burdens on the shoulders of professional engineers. Not only will they have to be technically competent and economically convincing; they will also have to be ecologically sensitive, environmentally literate and politically adept”. Perhaps that is what Treadgold really meant!
